Theo Roberton scored a team-high 16 points for California (12-8, 4-4), which has dropped two in a row and three of its last five. Ryan Anderson donated 13 points and six rebounds for the Golden Bears, while Omar Wilkes ended with nine points.

Cal held the early lead, going up 16-8 on back-to-back dunks by Anderson and Robertson and a three-point shot by Jerome Randle at 10:28.

UCLA started its comeback, outscoring the Golden Bears 16-8 down the stretch, as Shipps' jumper sent his team into the break with a 28-24 lead.

UCLA pulled away in the second half, opening a 10-point lead on Mbah a Moute's tip-in at 14:24.

Cal never got closer than seven the rest of the way, and trailed by 18 with just 5 1/2 minutes remaining in the contest.

The Bruins finished 50 percent from the floor after their slow start and held Cal leader Ayinde Ubaka to no points and two assists on 0-for-8 shooting performance.

Game Notes

This was the 218th meeting between UCLA and Cal with the Bruins leading the series 125-93...After scoring at least 77 points in three straight games for the first time all year, California had its lowest point total of the season against UCLA.

With the playoffs about two months away, the top two teams in the Western Conference are the clear cut leaders to win the NBA Championship. The addition of Chris Webber seems to have been a good move for the Pistons.  Since coming over from the 76ers, Webber has averaged 13.1 PPG and 7.3 RPG and the Pistons are 11-4.  Even though the defending champion Heat are currently on the playoff making cusp, they are the Eastern Conference team that is getting the most action to win it all (9-1).  The fact that Shaquille O’Neal is back in the starting lineup after missing 39 games probably has something to do with this.  No doubt, Shaq makes a difference when in the lineup as their winning six out of their last seven would indicate.
