Rangers' Guerrero visiting Angels for 1st time

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -Vladimir Guerrero spent the past six seasons with the Los Angeles Angels, helping them win five AL West titles.

The 35-year-old slugger went to Texas when the Angels didn't re-sign him last winter and is having quite a comeback season.

Guerrero will visit the Angels for the first time as an opposing player when Texas, which is leading the AL West, opens a three-games series Tuesday night in Anaheim.

Through 71 games, Guerrero is hitting .327 with 15 home runs and 60 RBIs. He hit .295 with 15 homers and 50 RBIs in 100 games for the Angels last year when he had two stints on the disabled list.

Guerrero also likely will be in Anaheim for next month's All-Star game. In fan voting that ends this week, he leads among designated hitters.Copyright © 2005 The Associated Press. Out west, 22nd-ranked Arizona State will be battling for their first victory over 21st-ranked California since 2000. Although the Golden Bears are listed as 7.5-point favorites, the Sun Devils are 3-0, lead the nation in sacks with 18 and possess the Pac-10's leading passer in sophomore quarterback Rudy Carpenter.

Pittsburgh earned their passage to the big game by beating their division rival, the Baltimore Ravens, 23-14 in yesterday's AFC Championship Game. The Cardinals, by far the playoff team with the longest odds to reach Super Bowl XLIII, did so yesterday with a 32-25 upset of the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship. Arizona charged out of the gates and built a 24-6 halftime lead that had the Eagles venerable defense reeling. Quarterback Kurt Warner and wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald did most of the damage, connecting on three first half touchdowns.

Arizona, however, could not sustain their momentum and the Eagles took a 25-24 with 10:45 left to play in the fourth. The Cardinals, with the franchise's first Super Bowl appearance hanging in the balance, mounted a fourteen play, 72 yard touchdown drive that consumed 7:52 off the clock. Warner hit running back Tim Hightower on a short screen for the go-ahead, game clinching score that will forever live in Cardinal infamy.
