Mauresmo to miss U.S. Open

08/16/2007 - Flushing, NY (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Amelie Mauresmo has withdrawn from the U.S. Open due to a right adductor strain.

The French star also needs more rest and recovery time from appendicitis surgery, and therefore will not try for her first U.S. Open. The tournament starts August 27.

"My doctor has recommended that I allow myself additional time to rest and recover from this injury so that it is completely healed," Mauresmo said in a statement provided by the United States Tennis Association. "Obviously, this is one of the worst times of the year for me to have an injury that has continued to prevent me from playing on the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour and now to miss the U.S. Open."

Mauresmo won last year's Australian Open and Wimbledon, her only two major titles. She was ousted in the fourth round in the same two tournaments this year and was beaten in the third round at this year's French Open. She last played for France in the Fed Cup semifinal against Italy from July 14-15.

The No. 7 ranked player in the world, Mauresmo has one championship this year and 24 for her career. She has never advanced past the semifinals at the U.S. Open.
