Justine Henin advances to Toronto semis

08/18/2007 - Toronto, ON (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Top-seeded Belgian Justine Henin toppled sixth-seeded Russian Nadia Petrova in straight sets Friday in the quarterfinals of the $1.34 million Rogers Cup.

Henin got off to a slow start against Petrova before winning 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 on the hardcourts at Rexall Centre on the campus of York University.

Henin is playing her first tennis since a stunning semifinal loss against France's Marion Bartoli in last month's Wimbledon semifinals. The six-time major titlist Henin is the reigning French Open champ and U.S. Open runner- up. She captured this Canadian event in 2003 and was the runner-up here in Toronto in 2005.

Petrova was last week's Carson runner-up to Serbian Ana Ivanovic, who also advanced to the semifinals on Friday.

The second-seeded Jankovic, a four-time titlist on the WTA Tour this season, handled France's Virginie Razzano 7-5, 6-2 at this U.S. Open Series event.

Up next for Jankovic will be 12th-seeded Frenchwoman Tatiana Golovin, who ousted her third-seeded fellow native Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova 2-6, 7-5, 6-1. Golovin hails from Moscow and lives in Miami, but plays under the French flag.

Henin, meanwhile, will draw Chinese qualifier Zi Yan in her semifinal matchup. Yan tallied another Day-5 upset as she knocked out the seventh-seeded Wimbledon runner-up Bartoli 6-2, 3-0, when the Frenchwoman retired due to a viral illness. Yan stunned defending Rogers Cup titlist and last week's Carson champ Ivanovic here earlier this week.
