Bears suspend DT Johnson for one game

12/20/2006 - Lake Forest, IL (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Chicago Bears suspended troubled defensive tackle Tank Johnson for Sunday's game at Detroit.

Johnson was charged last Thursday with six misdemeanor counts of possession of a firearm without a firearm owner's ID card. He was then deactivated by head coach Lovie Smith for Sunday's game against Tampa Bay.

Then on Saturday, Johnson's bodyguard and friend Willie Posey was shot and killed at a Chicago nightclub.

Johnson is eligible to return for the season finale against Green Bay.

The series of events is just the latest set of legal troubles for Johnson.

Johnson had battery and resisting arrest charges dropped last March. He was on probation at the time after a guilty plea to misdemeanor unlawful gun possession charges.

The 25-year-old Washington product has 23 tackles and two sacks in 13 games so far this season. He was selected in the second round by the Bears in 2004 and signed a five-year contract with the club.
